Umingmak Supply, a 100% Nunavut owned northern company, has been supplying communities in Nunavut since the territory was established in 1999 and in the North West Territories before then. The company was acquired in 2007 by Baker Lake Contracting and Supplies (BLCS) of Baker Lake, Nunavut. Owners Allan and Joyce Lahure have lived in “the territories” and operated businesses there for over 30 years. The addition of a distribution company plays an important part in addressing the unique shipping and freight-forwarding challenges the company faces in serving remote Northern communities.
